1. The key role of the Physical Society of Taiwan

26 to 28 August 1999 were the most memorable days of all my work on exceptional human functions.

The president of the Physical Society of Taiwan came to my laboratory with more than ten physicists and two psychologists to examine whether finger reading was genuine. Every sample tested was prepared by the society's physicists, and every test was run by them. Besides Ms. Mai Takahashi, I invited two others: young Miss Wang, the first person I had trained in finger reading back in 1996 and by then in her first year of junior high, and young Chen, a fourth-grader who had only developed the ability in July 1999. The three of them faced the physicists' challenge together.

Alongside results that the participants took as evidence that all three young people's finger reading was real, these experiments opened a door to the information field — imaginary spacetime, the spirit world — with a single sacred symbol, the character 佛 (Buddha), and did so in front of witnesses. The phenomenon showed up in Ms. Mai Takahashi, whose finger reading was the strongest and steadiest of the group. The question was whether the other children, young Miss Wang and young Chen, would respond in the same way.

2. Touching the character 佛: all three children saw unusual images

Young Miss Wang's ability had faded somewhat since primary school, but she could still read characters. With the first 佛 she too saw unusual images, as shown in Figure 1:

"There is a temple, with a person at the gate, flickering on and off."

The next day we tried another 佛, and again she saw something:

"There is a person I cannot see clearly, telling me to keep going, speaking with a Taiwanese accent. It feels very familiar."

She saw unusual images, then, but no bright light and no luminous figure — it was as though she had seen a different world. Afterwards we concluded that young Miss Wang had seen her late grandfather.

Young Chen also saw unusual images, as shown in Figure 2:

"There is a shaven-headed person holding prayer beads," and "He is wearing a black jacket, with white clothing underneath that has the character 佛 written on it."

He then wrote the character 佛, and his answer was correct: he saw the unusual images and the character too. All three children saw something, but to very different degrees. What was going on? Did it have to do with how strong their abilities were?

3. The browser for the network

The following year I trained another group of children in finger reading, and the strongest among them was young Miss Xu, a third-grader. I tried a number of sacred words with her. With 佛 (Buddha) and 耶穌 (Jesus) she saw only the characters, with no unusual images at all — but 藥師佛 (the Medicine Buddha) and 彌勒佛 (Maitreya) did produce them:

"I can see the three characters for the Medicine Buddha, but behind them there is an intense light, as bright as the sun. I cannot keep my eyes open";

"I can see an image of Maitreya, but no characters."

What was happening here? I also asked Sun Chu-Lin, a highly gifted subject in mainland China, to try. The character 佛 showed her "ten thousand rays of golden light", and 佛山 (Buddha Mountain) showed her "a mountain of crystal-clear glass". Her ability far exceeded that of the children, and what she saw was the most remarkable of all.

One day it struck me: if the information field is a world of networks and the sacred words are addresses, then the strength of a subject's brain function is simply the version number of their browser. The moment I thought it, the whole puzzle came clear. Young Miss Xu's ability was the weakest — perhaps something like the first version of Internet Explorer, unable to view most sites. Young Chen might be version two, able to see a few more. Young Miss Wang might be version four, with 佛 leading her to some middling worlds. Miss T might be version ten, with 佛 leading her to higher worlds where she could see bright light and luminous figures. Sun Chu-Lin might be version twenty, able to see higher and more remarkable scenes still.

The internet we connect to through computers, it turns out, is strikingly similar in structure to the information field. The person is the computer; the finger-reading function of the brain, the third eye the brain opens, is the browser stored inside it; the information field is the internet; the sacred words are the addresses; and the clusters of information that sacred figures have established in the information field are the websites of that world.

From these results it seems that not only the founders of the great religions have set up sites in the information field, but so have the sages and immortals of history and the deities worshipped in folk tradition. Making offerings to them and honoring them is not superstition, and it is not a matter of strange forces and disorderly spirits. To my mind they really do exist — simply in another dimension. Science is beginning to lead us towards their world, and I hope that one day we will be able to say hello to them directly on the screen of a torsion field display.

Editor's note:

The research into sacred symbols that Prof. Si-Chen Lee began with this work led in turn to Aqive's development of the Qi Crystal range and the Qi Box range.
